Repairing cast iron the Metalock way – how it's done
Our cast iron repairs are achieved by peening layers of keys into prepared apertures in the surface being repaired. Each key, made of special nickel alloys, is formed into a 'multi-dumbbell' shape. Because they are highly ductile, the keys are easily peened into a metal-to-metal condition so they're almost integral with the metal of the component under repair. Metalock keys are manufactured in a variety of sizes to suit each specific job. Their high strength ensures that the repair achieves a high percentage of the original strength.
Process advantages
Repairs carried out by this method avoid the introduction of unwanted heat stresses. Because of this, there's no distortion and in many cases no further machining is required. It's a useful option where emergency repairs are required, a process that reduces downtime and the need for expensive replacement castings.

Cast iron repairs can often be carried out on site, which eliminates the need to remove damaged equipment from its working position and the cost of transporting it to a remote workshop. Smaller equipment items can of course be repaired in our workshops if required.
